In this performance Maria W Horn presents an array of pieces for four handed organ and electronics arranged and played together with Mats Erlandsson.
Marias compositional practice uses minimalist structures and piercing power electronics utilizing both digital and analog synthesis as well as acoustic instruments and audiovisual components to examine psychoacoustic phenomena and aspects of human perception. The music performed in this setting uses amplified and electronically treated organ in conjunction with a fixed electronic part to create a hybrid instrument with a spectrally transformed timbre still anchored in the harmonic language associated with the body of music traditionally performed on the instrument.
This performance includes a live presentation of the piece Konvektion, originally composed by Horn in 2018. When playing the piece the two performers are instructed to measure the duration of each chord by the length of their individual breaths. Being as though the organ is a wind instrument this means that the massive streams of air vibrated by the pipes combine in a circular system connected to the air moving through the lungs of both performers.
