Faust has been around since the beginning of the notoriously motorik beats of krautrock. Often described as being the main force in the founding of the genre itself, and outsiders at the same time. Their importance to music cannot and should not be underestimated.
From the years 1971-1973, Faust released four albums, and the mystical roots of the lore that is Faust begins to take shape here. The saga of Faust is so wonderfully weird and mindboggling, that everyone should delve into it.
[…] so, they got a record deal on the basis of Liebe Herr Deutschland, on the rather conservative and classical record label Deutsche Grammophon GmBH. They were then forwarded to Polydor, who imagined them to be the German Beatles. In hopes of them making a pendant reminiscent of a German Sgt. Pepper, Polydor therefore handed Faust a suitcase full of money. How they spent it, was up to them. The band used the money to build their (now infamous) Wumme Studios. Here they created some of the best krautrock ever made, while they watched the rest of the money go up in smoke (literally). Or, at least that's how the story goes...
One thing is for sure: rarely has a band been shrouded in so much lore and mystery, legends and stories as Faust has. No one saw it coming and no one guessed how big an impact this band would make, when they build their studio, 50 kilometers outside of Hamborg in the beginning of the 1970s.
This one is for the history books.
