PUSSY RIOT: POLITICAL GIRL ^IS/CA

Pussy Riot member Maria (Masha) Alyokhina presents a live reading from her new book Political Girl, accompanied by an improvised live score by Pussy Riot member and New Age Doom drummer Eric J. Breitenbach. Political Girl continues the story begun in Riot Days, tracing Alyokhina's life inside the tightening machinery of Putin's Russia from 2014 to 2022. Through sharp and intimate fragments, she recounts arrests, prison sentences, police violence, protests at the Sochi Olympics, advocacy for Alexei Navalny and her escape from Russia disguised as a food courier. During the performance, Alyokhina reads selections from the book while Breitenbach creates a live improvised musical score that reacts to the text in real time. The performance combines reading, live music and video.
