With her work in My Bloody Valentine, Deb Googe helped shape the sound of alternative rock and shoegaze. Alongside pianist and longtime Billy Bragg collaborator Cara Tivey, she now explores a more stripped-back, shadowy terrain. As da Googie + Cara Tivey, the duo combine thick-yet-minimal soundscapes, the openness of dub put across in a densely claustrophobic style, a bass-driven sound melding effortlessly into moments of delicate piano, and lyrics which convey vast depths of meaning with only a mere handful of words.
